Dragon Riders

& Soul Bonding

How does soul-bonding work?
Soul-bonding can be played out several ways. A common one is now the dragon and their rider share souls. Each gets a 1/2 of the others during the bonding ceremony. Another could  be a lesser bonding, where both PCs keep their individual souls, but they are connected.  This is all player preference as we like to keep everyone with some freedom.

What happens if my bonded partner dies/disappears ICly?
You can play it out however you like. Perhaps you mourn for a while, go insane, die of grief, or go celebrate at the tavern with some elven wine.

If a bonded pair shared souls, what happens if the other dies?
Welp. You now have 1/2 a soul! Maybe some magical player could be convinced to retrieve it for you through a fancy ceremony! Play it out as you like.

Dragon Rider & Soul Bonding FAQ

Soul-Bonding Ceremonies
These can be public or private.  Player preference.
Bonded pairs can be part of any faction.

Possible Soul Bonded Abilities:
Telepathic communication:
If you choose a telepathic link, consider the distance from your bonded when communicating ICl'y.

OOC Note: This is to avoid knowing exactly where your bond is if they happen to be summoning you for help.

Running across the entire sim to aid them would be a form of metagaming if the distance is too great.

Think Aren'Dorei  to Stonehurst, you might need to do some serious hunting to physically track them down, which would take IC time.  If they happen to be a 1/2 mile away, of course, the message received would be much clearer. Think of <distance>  between point A and point B  as static on the line.

Emotional link:
You can sense your dragons or riders' emotions, depending on which you are.  Some emotions, such as extreme sadness or pain could be significant and could cause physical reactions in the other if you want.  Lose an arm mid-fight in Stonehurst, your dragon might suddenly fall out of the sky unexpectedly over in Khanthra, or break into a puddle of giant dragon tears.

OOC Note:
Emotional link doesn't allow you to 'blindly know' where your bonded partner is in sim unless you are close to each other.  If you can't visually see them/smell them/ (if you have those types of skills), you have no real idea of their location.

The above are examples of abilities, as a bonded pair you may choose a different custom-made ability. It's important to ensure whatever is chosen, doesn't make the combined unit OP, fair play is important please!

General Information

In the realm of myth and legend, dragons have forever been enshrouded in the veils of avarice and their insatiable lust for hoards beyond measure. These majestic beings, each with their unique proclivities, hoarded treasures beyond mortal comprehension, ranging from glittering gold and precious gems to succulent feasts and captivating trinkets of the world.

Yet, it was a time unfathomable, a millennium ago, when a dragon known throughout the lands as Ralzrig the Great embarked upon a profound revelation. Within the sinewy threads of fate, he forged an extraordinary bond, one that transcended the limitations of his kind. In a serendipitous encounter, he pledged his essence to another, a diminutive halfling maiden by the name of Velma.

Their souls intertwined in a symphony of magic and unity, soaring through the boundless skies as if their very beings melded into a singular entity. As Ralzrig and Velma became inseparable, a remarkable transformation began to unfurl.

The unimaginable bond they shared acted as a salve upon Ralzrig's insatiable greed. It was whispered among the wise that dragons could never completely quell the fire of avarice burning within, nor the ceaseless yearning to amass their hoards. Yet, in the sacred connection between dragon and halfling, an enchantment was wrought, and it served to temper the voracious compulsion that gnawed at Ralzrig's ancient heart.

In the annals of fantastical tales, the story of Ralzrig and Velma stands as a testament to the enduring power of bonds formed amidst the magic-woven tapestry of a realm where dragons soar and destiny is forged in fire and friendship.

Timeline

No one knows exactly how long ago Rehdfyr was discovered as being the source of the world's magic. It is known, however, that Aysanore, rich in redfhyr, was sheltered from view for centuries before being found by Ostia.

  • Fifteen years before current time - Ostia arrives at the docks of Aren Dorei. They make their home in a camp settlement just outside the city. The leaders of the small, new community offered the leaders of the island a small, nearly insulting, sum for access to the rehdfyr. It was angrily declined.

  • Fourteen years before current time - The settlers never left, staying in tents or constructing simple wooden homes. Flickers in the island's magic revealed that the settlers were stealing the resource and sending it back to Ostia in sealed shipping crates. Tension escalates.

  • Thirteen years before current time - Tensions continue to rise until the first battle occurs. Some say the fae of Ieth Belanore were the first to draw blood, others paint the Ostian settlers as the aggressors. Whoever attacked first, the fighting would drag on for two years.

  • Eleven years before current time- Ieth Belanore is destroyed with most inhabitants fleeing to Aren Dorei. A treaty is made between the settlers and Aren Dorei stating that Aren Dorei would not push out the settlers and they would not develop beyond the boundaries of the city that had once been Ieth Belanore.

  • Ten years before current time- Stonehurst is officially established on the ruins of Ieth Belanore.

Aquatic Races
& the War

When war broke out between those on land, there was no official stance. However, that did not mean there were no aquatic races involved in the fighting. Some hired themselves out as mercenaries on either side of the frontlines while others were content to ignore the battles entirely.

Aquatic races are welcome in all factions, with the character's personality and alignment being the deciding factors in where they settle.
